From the comfort of the great indoors to the excitement of the great outdoors – stop by Chainline on March 28th at 6pm for a FREE Avalanche Awareness Class hosted with the Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC). More information can be found on our “Things to Do” page.

Chainline also hosted a “Meet the Brewer” event earlier this month, and we had a chance to catch up with brewer Brandon Huff about all things beer. Read below for our Q+A with Brandon and check back on Kirkland Urban’s website for future events with the brewing team.

Q: How did you get started brewing beer?

A: My first foray into the beer making process was through homebrewing.  A few friends of mine homebrewed their own beer and I thought it sounded like fun and decided to give it a try. I was really fascinated with the scientific and artistic elements of making my own beer. After a few years of brewing at home, I decided to go to Oregon State University and pursue a degree in Fermentation Science. After completing my degree, I worked at Block 15 Brewing Company in Corvallis, OR and Breakside Brewery in Portland before I found my home at Chainline Brewing Company in 2021.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your work?

A: What I enjoy most about my work is the variety of day-to-day tasks. Each day presents a fresh set of goals and challenges, keeping things dynamic and engaging. Brewing constantly teaches me something new, even about topics I thought I already understood well. It’s a field where learning is continuous, and there’s always something unexpected to discover. Additionally, I truly enjoy working on a passionate team of hard-working individuals who have a shared dedication to the craft.

Q: What is your favorite beer that you brew and why?

A: One of my top picks among the beers I brew must be Polaris Pilsner. I have a soft spot for the Bohemian Pilsner style – it’s steeped in rich history, and personally, it’s a style I thoroughly relish. Brewing Polaris involves traditional methods and utilizing unique ingredients inherent to this classic style. Winning the Gold at the World Beer Cup last year was not only a humbling experience, but it was exhilarating for our entire team.

Q: Are there any beers you are looking forward to brewing in the future? What trends in brewing are you excited to embrace?

A: I’m really looking forward to the array of beers we’re releasing this year! We’ve got a lineup of collaboration brews in store, which are not only exciting but also incredibly informative for us as brewers. Speaking of trends, I’m particularly thrilled about the resurgence of lagers in recent times. It’s a trend I fully embrace because crafting various styles of lagers brings me immense joy.
